I specialize in painless acupuncture. My needles
are finely machined, high quality, smooth stainless steel. They are
hair-thin, and so there should be no pain with insertion. Once the needle
is in there may be a sensation of warmth, a mild tingling, or just a
feeling of movement. For your safety, all Minnesota Licensed acupuncturists
must use sterile disposable needles.
In western medicine, the flow of blood is mapped in
charts of the venous system, and the flow of neural impulses is shown
in charts of the central nervous system. Oriental medicine maps the
flow of qi (pronounced "chee") or energy which flows throughout
the body in channels. When this flow is unbalanced or unharmonious,
symptoms may develop. It is my job as the practitioner to discern where
the flow of qi may be interrupted, and to influence a return to harmony
so health may manifest abundantly. I use acupuncture and other modalities
to achieve this return to harmony.
Acupuncture is one facet of oriental medicine. My
teachers were Chinese, so I studied mostly traditional Chinese medicine,
which I supplemented with the study of Japanese styles. Other tools
of oriental medicine include herbs, diet, massage, exercise, moxibustion,
and lifestyle recommendations.
